We are thrilled to share the exciting news that Eccomelt has been featured in a recent article by Andrew Halonen in the December issue of Light Metal Age magazine.
The article spotlights the groundbreaking work at Rivian Automotive, and discusses the innovative use of Eccomelt’s 100% recycled aluminum in a 1.4m large aluminum casting.
At the Technology Forum on November 2, 2023, Shian Jia, materials engineer at Rivian Automotive, highlighted the use of Eccomelt’s recycled aluminum in the semi-solid manufacturing (SSM) process, also known as rheocasting. The casting is produced by Dynatool Industries using the Comptech Rheocasting process. This SSM process not only produces a smooth surface finish comparable to high-pressure die casting, but also achieves exceptionally low porosity. This unique combination allows for heat treatment without the formation of blisters—a significant advantage in enhancing the strength and toughness of aluminum.
The showcase piece mentioned in the article is a 1.4m aluminum casting used to reinforce the door on the Amazon delivery van. This application demonstrates the effectiveness of Eccomelt’s recycled aluminum in creating robust and reliable structural components for the automotive industry.
The significance of Eccomelt’s contribution lies in its commitment to sustainability through the use of 100% recycled aluminum. By incorporating Eccomelt’s materials, Rivian Automotive exemplifies how advancements in casting technology can align with eco-friendly practices without compromising on quality.
To delve deeper into the details of Eccomelt’s involvement at the Technology Forum, we invite you to read the full article from Light Metal Age.
